In the given paper, “What is it like to be a bat?”, Thomas Nagel takes a dig at the physicalist arguments, which formed the basis of reductionism. He advocates that the doctrine of reductionism reduces the mental to the physical, while trying to explain it; however, he believes that this cannot be done in case of phenomenal subjective experience. He argues that while studying the mind-body problem, one has to take into account the notion of consciousness and cannot treat subjective experience in merely an objective fashion.
